Staying Safe & E-Safety

Addington Valley Academy takes e-safety very seriously. Our E-Safety Policy is available to download from the Policies page.

GetSafeOnline A site explaining the basics of safe surfing, including how to protect your PC and avoiding internet crime: http://www.getsafeonline.org/

CEOP is the UK’s national police agency for protecting young people on-line. You can get help and advice on a range of subjects and you can report directly to CEOP if you are worried about someone’s behaviour on-line. http://www.ceop.police.uk/

‘Thinkuknow’ is run by CEOP and has information for young people aged 5 to 16, parents and other resources. http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/

Childline: www.childline.org.uk  Free phone number: 0800 1111 National organisation offering online support and telephone support to young people in distress. Top Tip: If you do not get along with the person you speak to over the phone, hang up and re-dial- they don’t mind.

Samaritans: www.samaritans.org.uk call free any time, from any phone on 116 123. National organisation which offers 24 hour telephone and face to face emotional support to people in distress. Website offers useful information pages about different mental health difficulties.

Young Minds: www.youngminds.org.uk Young Minds promotes mental health issues within young people. A wealth of information about different mental health issues which affect young people. A range of information and leaflets can be downloaded.

Internet Matters: www.internetmatters.org A not-for-profit organisation that has a simple purpose – to help keep children safe in the digital world. Internet Matters provides specific help on how to set up internet controls at home along with guidance and articles for parents about keeping children safe online.

Bullying UK: http://www.bullying.co.uk/ One in five young people have experienced bullying by text message or via email. This web site gives advice for children and parents on bullying.

Digizen website http://www.digizen.org/ The Digizen website provides information for educators, parents, carers, and young people. It is used to strengthen their awareness and understanding of what digital citizenship is and encourages users of technology to be and become responsible DIGItal citiZENS.
