Occupational therapists understand that children have a very important job to do – they have to grow, learn, socialise and play. When a child has learning, emotional, psychological or physical difficulties, this can hinder their ability to develop and thrive resulting in them struggling with the basic activities of daily living.
At Addington Valley Academy, our occupational therapist works with the students, parents/carers and teachers to find solutions to minimise the difficulties a student faces. They help them to get the most from school life and to become as independent as possible.
Our occupational therapist completes observations and assessments in the areas of eating and drinking, self-care, hand writing, scissor skills, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, sensory processing and visual perceptual skills. Intervention is provided on an individual, group or classroom basis.
