Canine Assisted Learning (CAL)

Our Canine Assisted Learning (CAL) therapy sessions are dedicated to improving the mental health, emotional wellbeing and literacy of young people through professional canine support.

At Addington Valley Academy, our CAL is delivered by Lisa and therapy dog Autumn.

Autumn and Lisa bring so much joy to our school, they support students with strategies for staying calm, reducing anxiety and some students like to read with Autumn.

Students enjoy stroking and playing with her – enhancing their love of dogs or simply overcoming any fears they may have.

Autumn the therapy dog with her mum Mable.

The progress my son has made is phenomenal, we couldn’t be happier.

We feel very lucky that he is in this school.
