Remote Home Learning
Addington Valley Academy recognises the unprecedented nature of the current pandemic and the effect it can have on our families. This information is to support parents understanding of what pupils, parents and carers should expect during periods of school closure or pupil isolation relating to coronavirus (COVID-19).
If we are unable to provide teaching in school then we have an extensive and individualised online package that combines all school, small group and individual lessons to best cater to our student’s needs.
Initially parents and carers will receive a home learning pack. This includes 10 days of lessons, activities, resources and a suggested timetable for parents to follow. This will then be supplemented with lessons which will be live with the teacher or teaching assistant. We feel that this personalised approach works best for our students. If the closure or isolation lasts longer than a 10-day period, then families will receive a printed work pack and materials weekly that will continue to support the online lessons.
Where some of our students are unable or unwilling to engage with video calls then we deliver a more extensive and individualised alternative work pack home every week.
Therapies also continue to be offered online. These consist of 1:1 and small group sessions. Words of the week with a support pack and an online video tutorial are sent to every family.
We are in constant contact with our families to offer support. We will call once a week to families who are able to engage with our online teaching and twice a week to those who are working from the paper-based work packs.
